Holiday Activities – First Congregational Church UCC

Special Holiday Activities

Food Baskets

“Every year we collect food from members and friends to fill Easter and Thanksgiving food baskets to support Dunbarton families in need of assistance. Families that sign up to participate pick up their basket at the vestry by appointment. On average, 20 families are assisted each year.”

Operation Secret Elf

“The Secret Elf program is a grass roots effort the church began in 1995 to help families in the town of Dunbarton during the holidays during this often financially challenging time of the year. The program is now run by a team of good Samaritans from the town with support from the church. Assistance is given to families that choose to participate in the form of a gift or gifts for their child or children. As with the holiday Food Baskets, families pick up their gifts by appointment. On average, 12 families are assisted each year with 30 gifts distributed to children.”

Holiday Concert

“Each December, our music director Lizz Ferdina, Pianist Danny VanKalken and many musical friends and volunteers put together a wonderful holiday concert for a packed audience in our historic church in the heart of Dunbarton.  Unfortunately, COVID concerns are still lurking and we were unable to figure out how to safely prepare and present a live concert this year.  For future events – keep an eye on our Newsletter or Facebook –  there is talk of a Spring concert for 2023 and we are optimistic we’ll be back ‘on stage’ next December!”
